Hotel spa consultant in the Maldives

Are you opening a resort in the Maldives, or does the spa of an existing resort need reorganising? I’m a consultant in hotel spa openings and operations. I set up how the spa runs: menu, procedures, schedules, team and links with the rest of the resort.

I’m based in Finistère, France, and travel for projects. I come on site at the start of the assignment, then the work moves forward remotely and on the island depending on the stage.

01

174 resorts, each on its own island

The Maldives welcomed 2,246,516 tourists in 2025, up 9.8% on 2024. China leads (14.7%), ahead of Russia (12.4%), the UK (9%), Germany (7.5%) and Italy (6.8%). In September 2025, the Ministry of Tourism counted 174 resorts in operation, with 43,247 beds.

The country built its offer on the “one island, one resort” idea. In 2025, the average stay was 6.97 days across all types of accommodation. On an island where the resort spa is the only one within reach, the same guests may come back several times during their stay, which changes how you build the menu and packages.

02

A season that follows the flights

In 2025, resort occupancy reached 68.3% over the year, peaking at 73.5% in December. For 2026, the share of direct seats from Europe drops from 12.3% in February to 1.6% in June, according to airport forecasts quoted by Visit Maldives. The guest mix shifts month by month, and the spa has to adjust its offers and schedules to that rhythm.

03

Largely international teams, within clear rules

A 2012 Ministry of Tourism circular allows up to 55% expatriate staff in resorts. Since 2023, spa-specific regulations require spas to register, and every foreign spa employee needs a work permit within the quota granted to that spa. Hiring therefore has to be planned early, with precise job descriptions.

What I bring to a resort spa

In Méribel, I helped recruit a four-person team and prepared the three treatment rooms of a temporary spa while the permanent one was delayed. At the Villars Palace in Switzerland, I built the operation of an 800 sqm spa. In both cases, the team had to be ready on opening day.

For a resort in the Maldives, I define the roles needed, write the procedures and checklists, build schedules from demand scenarios and organise coordination with the front desk and other departments.

My full method is described on the hotel spa consulting page.

Frequently asked questions

Do you travel to the Maldives?

Yes. I come on site at the start of the assignment, then for test days and the first days of operation. I plan the rest of the schedule with you, including transfers to the island.

Which languages do you work in?

I work in English and French. Procedures and team materials are written in English when that is the resort’s working language.

How does an assignment work remotely and on site?

The first visit lets me see the spa, the team and how the resort runs. I then work remotely on procedures, schedules and job descriptions, with regular check-ins. I come back to the island to launch with the team.
